Yeah, Very Clever …

… says Toitilly. I put the mop cap on him for a cute picture. He is not amused. A Toitilly has his dignity to uphold.

This is the thing I accomplished last weekend, or was it the weekend before? The mop cap for the Dicken’s Faire next year is finished.  It is a lovely, non-stressful project:  sitting and stitching in the car.  The first line of stitching, the fabric to the lining, all the way around the edge was hand sewn.  And the last line of stitching, the lovely rustic lace, all the way around the finished edge was also hand sewn.

The two lines of stitching for the elastic casing I sewed on the Elna on last Saturday, at the East Bay Heritage Quilter’s Open Quilting, in a church basement on Marin Avenue, where a car dweller can plug in her sewing machine, retrieved from storage, and have a lovely productive morning.

I’m going to do another.  I have the rest of the yard.  For this one, the circle you start with was 22 inches across, and while it is ample on Toitilly’s head, it is a little skimpy on mine.  I’m going to try 24 inches and see what that looks like … and have a colored lining.  What color?  An occasion to prowl around the Stone Mountain Daughters fabric store, I think.

I am going to try, this year, always to have a sewing project going in the car. But these short days are discouraging, as I only really have time, and light, to work on the weekends. Sew in the early morning? No, the early morning is for coloring. Next post !
